1. Tinsel

Tinsel is a cute and hip spot in the “Zuid” Area. The owners bake their own bread, and every week there are original dishes on the menu, often with seasonal ingredients and superfoods. Be aware, cause you won’t be able to resist the extensive selection of cakes. Carrot cake, chocolate bread pudding, two types of cheesecakes and an apple pie compete with the rich chocolate brownie that looks irresistible. The unobtrusive brick façade fits in with the homely atmosphere and the freshly baked delicacies at Tinsel. On a nice day you can enjoy the terrace, or in bad weather just stay cosy inside.

 

2. Hümm

Hümm is a single dish restaurant where you can fully enjoy 12 different kinds of home-made hummus. Middle Eastern, Asian and European delicacies are brought together in one plate, to offer you the tastiest Hummus in Antwerp. More than that, Hümm offers dishes made with fresh ingredients and encourages its visitors to choose glass jars over disposable plastic, and also provides ecologically degradable packaging as an alternative.

 

 

3. F.A.A.M

Froya & Adinda, 2 young female entrepreneurs, found each other in their search for ecological and original products with colorful patterns that would be able to depict their ideas and turn them into a meaningful, dynamic project. At F.A.A.M they not only sell their own brand, they also sell shoes, jackets, jeans, sunglasses, socks and everything in between, all from brands with the same way of thinking as Froya & Adinda: ecological, sustainable, comfortable and hip. Froya and Adinda won the WOMEN AWARD in 2017, a prestigious award for female entrepreneurs in Belgium.

4. Berchem Street Art Route

fan of art and alternative tourism? The Berchem street art walking route is the new local attraction for street art fanatics. Once a year the graffiti festival is organized at the Zomerfabriek. On that day, 160 artists from 18 different countries come together to create their art together. The “Street Art Berchem Route” is 8 kilometers long – The perfect distance to travel with a scooter. You will see the most hidden, but also more striking artworks of the Berchem graffiti scene. A wall of 3,000 m2 on which 120 artists have collaborated can be found. Look for the streets called Krugerstraat, Minkelersstraat and Uitbreidingstraat.

 

5. MAS

The famous MAS is no stranger to anyone. The impressive warehouse in the heart of the bustling “Eilandje” has a new story about Antwerp, its harbor and its historical links with the rest of the world on every floor. But more than that, the places around the MAS – like Sanba, Felix Pakhuis, Balls & Glory are definitely worth a visit!

 

6. Kinepolis

Can you think of something nicer than to organize a trip to the cinema with the family on a cold winter’s day? We neither! Scooty has installed a pop-up zone right next to the Kinepolis Antwerp. 7. Charlie’s

Charlie’s is the hottest coffee spot in the area. At the age of 25, Charlotte developed this gemfrom scratch and won the prize for ‘best coffee bar in Flanders’ four times in a row. You can buy artisanal and local products such as chocolate spread (HEAVEN), jams (CALLAS) and organic teas (SAMOVA). But Charlotte longed for more, and opened her own bed and breakfast last spring, where you can now stay overnight since 1 April 2018.

8. Plein Publiek

Circular is the way to go! And the new Plein Publiek is the hottest eco-friendly spot in the city. On the d’Herbouvillekaai, behind the new Palace of Justice, the popular attraction has reopened its doors. Growing plants with pesticide-avoiding LED technology, restaurants that run 100% on zero waste, and shops where only sustainable fashion items are sold, all of this can be found at the new hip spot of ATown. You can eat at grillmasters Nick and Kevin’s new restaurant, where they grind locally grown vegetables in salt crust.

 

9. HOST

HOST, the House Of Sweets & Things in Antwerp combines slow fashion, an organic café, sustainable interior products, interior plants and more. A sustainable store located in the most dynamic street of Berchem: the Statiestraat. The bottomline? Sustainability! for all brands that are offered, importance is attached to a responsible yet holistic approach to the production process. For example, not everything that is 100% made of natural materials is always more sustainable, because sometimes things last longer when something synthetic is added. Local entrepreneurs who do fair fashion and produce in Europe are also supported by them.

 

10. Goegekregen Flea Market

Goegekregen is a young Antwerp collective that works for an active, super diverse and sustainable urban life. Together with other actors they organize monthly flea markets, design markets, vintage & second-hand clothing markets in the upcoming areas of Antwerp.
